Repurpose Kite to Bag
Our goal is to create a second chance for both people and materials, we provide a safe and dignifying working space, paying respectful living wages and saving as many materials as we can from landfills.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Zurich, Switzerland with a chance encounter that would birth the idea to provide survivors of prostitution and human trafficking with a safe and rehabilitating workspace. With the help of our good friend, Rebekka Federer, who conceived the idea to repurpose kite surfing sails into upcycled bags, founders Tabea and Matthias Oppliger turned it into a thriving social business.
Meet the people behind the brand
Tabea and Matthias Oppliger, inspired by their love for water sports and passionate about social justice, went on a mission after a chance encounter on the streets of Zurich. Hearing, “We don’t need pity, we need jobs!” from individuals in prostitution, they recognized the urgent need for safe employment and fair wages for survivors. This led to the creation of Kitepride, a social bag brand that combines their passion for kitesurfing with the goal of providing dignified work.
Our organisation employs survivors of prostitution and human trafficking, crafting unique, up-cycled bags. Supported by our parent non-profit, glowbalact, Kitepride embodies commitment to people, sustainability, and community.
